We are on the cusp of a new gaming era. Sony, Google and Microsoft are among the major gaming companies developing new technologies to create more interactive experiences. These include virtual reality (VR), motion detection and holograms. The changes we see will affect not only the video games that we play but also other gaming experiences. is the future of online casino gaming. Many companies are working to develop this technology to provide players with an immersive experience.
The first step in this brave new universe will be VR video games. Travel, online training and, of course, porn are all eager to use the new technology. We’ll look at how three different technologies could change the future of gaming.
Virtual Reality
Oculus Rift was the first VR headset to get people excited in 2012. Four hello88 years later, it still promises thrilling virtual reality experiences both for PC users as well as Xbox One. HTC Vive, released just a few months after the Oculus, was developed in partnership with Valve. It has Steam support, and an extensive library of games.
Sony is releasing its own Sony Virtual Reality headset in October. It will be much cheaper than the predecessors. The headset alone will cost $199, but users will also need to purchase a camera and two Sony Move Controllers. The list of games for these headsets grows every month, with titles like Eve: Valkyrie and The Gallery: Call of the Starseed getting gamers excited about this new technology.
Facebook Surround 360 Camera
Facebook first announced it would be purchasing the Oculus VR headset. Less than a year later, the company released the Facebook 360. This is a production-ready 3D-360 video camera with high quality that seamlessly combines the videos from 17 different cameras. This technology is initially used to create 360 videos and films, but I believe that with the partnership between Oculus we will also see an increase in video games. I played Night Trap for the Sega CD, and Wing Commander 3 later on the Panasonic 3DO. This style of game is not likely to be revived to give gamers an alternative experience to 3D graphics.
Microsoft HoloLens
Microsoft HoloLens aims to integrate your digital world into the real one by projecting elements of digital technology onto your view. Initial demos showed Skype windows projected onto walls, Netflix streaming on a screen that can be resized, weather widgets on the kitchen sideboard, and 3D design software controlled by users’ hands. All of this is very cool but the moment that was most exciting for us was when Minecraft appeared on tables and floors. Minecraft HoloLens allowed players to experience their world in a new way. HoloLens allows players to have a much more varied experience. Games can be played either on a 2D flat screen or they can be designed so that game objects are placed in the real world, crossing the boundaries between reality and the virtual. Imagine shadows moving around the floor, or your hands curled around the door of your living room. It’s very scary, but also exciting.
Virtual reality and augmented reality will be the future of gaming. With 360 video and motion controls such as Leap Motion Orion and 360 video, the future looks bright.
